Evie update

OK I have been slacking updating on her accomplishments!

So a few days ago, lets say Tuesday December 28. Evie was responding to her name! I would call it and she would whip her head around and look at me. Then I would say other things. Her head would start staring at something else. Then said her name again! And eye contact! Such a Big Girl!

Since Christmas Evie has not been sleeping well. It has SUCKED. Up every 1-3 hours. Closer to the 1-2 hour range. Restless sleeping. Always making noise. Ugh.

Called the pediatrician. She has some dry spots on her head and her back. They think she isn't sleeping well because she is dry and itchy. I have been moisturizing and putting baby oil on. But not enough. So they recommend Aquaphor (I actually picked some up the night before because my aunt recommended it). They also suggested a little bit of liquid benedryl (1/4 of a tsp, so about 1 mL).

She was lathered in aquaphor (head and back). Gave her some benedryl. She did not like the taste of that. Her face was hilarious! Well I don't blame her, cherry flavored medicine is DISCUSTING! Really should have gotten it on video. Someone on one of the boards I am on recommended using a sleep sack and zipping her arms in instead of putting them in the arm holes. Nick installed her black out shade.

And she slept so much better last night! WooHoo! Tonight trying no benedryl, I don't like medicating my baby. I think she is also having a wakeful period.

She did put one arm out the sleep sack arm hole. But she left her head be. She did wake up twice to eat. I think because she is so tired when she gets home she doesn't want to eat. But she loves waking up early. I really needed to sleep in. She would have loved to get up at 5:30 but no. Pacifier and Seahorse worked. We did get up at 6:30. Not bad.

I think I need to get a kid/baby dvd to put on while I am getting ready. I hate her watching TV, but to get ready for work, take care of animals, get pump and such together. I need her entertained. Any recommendations?

Also, my mom did get us an AWESOME christmas present for Evie! A doorway jumper. We have it set up in the area between the dining room and kitchen. Evie loves it. And it gives me somewhere to put her where she is entertained, watches me and the dogs while I do things in the kitchen! Love that thing! Thank You Mom!

What a wonderful Christmas

Ok its been a bit since I posted.

We had a wonderful wonderful Christmas! Evie got some great things! We just enjoyed being home with Evie. Loved Christmas morning. We let it drag out and would not change that for anything! Woke up with Evie. Made muffins. She took her morning nap while I picked up. Nick got up. Made mimosas. Opened stockings. Opened presents. Had a leisurly time sitting in front of the tree playing with Evie. Had a yummy breakfast.

Was perfect! I would say the best Christmas we have ever had.

Christmas Tree with Presents. Santa didn't wrap Evie's things. Wanted to make it easy for her to enjoy them!

Santa filled everyone's stockings! I hope to learn how to knit and make a stocking like mine and Evie's for Nick. And one for the animals similar. And yes my stocking is full. Just it is a huge stocking.

Mom...I think I have too many toys piled up here!

And Evie's big toy from Santa!

Christmas Morning breakfast. She wanted a muffin!

I have more pictures, just havn't uploaded them yet.

Inside Out Pumpkin Muffins

These are my favorite muffins to make! So yummy.

Evie and I made them Christmas morning. Easy and yum!

They are from King Arthur Flour. Copy and pasted below, with some notes added (italic).

1 cup (8 ounces) puréed pumpkin (about half of a 15-ounce can)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup (3 3/4 ounces) brown sugar
3 tablespoons (1 1/4 ounces) vegetable oil
1/4 cup (3 ounces) boiled cider* (for best flavor), or dark corn syrup (I used maple syrup, or made my own apple cider simple syrup)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (or 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup (2 5/8 ounces) milk
1 1/2 cups (6 3/4 ounces) King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose or King Arthur White Whole Wheat Flour, preferably organic

Filling
1 8-ounce package cream cheese or Neufchâtel cheese
1/4 cup (1 3/4 ounces) granulated sugar
a few drops Fiori di Sicilia flavor, optional (I just bought this and yes it makes it better. But you can use vanilla extract, or a combo of vanilla and orange, or vanilla with orange zest)

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a standard 12-cup muffin pan with muffin papers, and grease the papers. Or lightly grease a maple leaf pan.

To make the batter: Whisk together the pumpkin, eggs, brown sugar, oil, boiled cider or corn syrup, salt, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and milk. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl. Add the flour and mix until well combined.

To make the filling: Place the cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat on low power for 40 seconds. Stir in the sugar and flavor.

Drop about 2 tablespoons of the batter (a tablespoon cookie scoop works well here) into each muffin cup, spreading it to cover the bottom. Dollop on a heaping tablespoon of filling, then cover with another 2 tablespoons of batter. If you’re using maple leaf molds, drop about 1 1/2 tablespoons of batter into each of the 6 molds. Add a scant tablespoon of filling, and spread about 1 1/2 tablespoons batter on top. The recipe will make 16 maple leaves, so you’ll need to bake in batches.

Bake the standard muffins for 18 to 20 minutes, until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out crumb-free. Bake the leaf muffins for 16 to 18 minutes, testing them the same way. Remove from the oven. After 5 minutes, gently loosen the edges of the leaf muffins, and turn the pan over onto a cooling rack; the muffins should drop out. For regular muffins, simply transfer them to a rack to cool.
Yield: 12 regular muffins, or 16 leaf muffins.

To make apple cider simple syrup: equal parts apple cider with sugar. Boil down until a syrup forms. Let cool. Similar to regular simple syrup but using apple cider. Easy. And good to use in mixed drinks!

Christmas Card Decorations

I saw this a few years on Martha Stewart and had a crafty evening and did this. I use it every year and love it!

What it is. A decorative rope (could use ribbon) tied to the railings of our stairs (you could put above or on a fireplace mantle, along wall, whatever). Then take close pins. With a glue stick, glue on pieces of old wrapping paper to the front. Simple. And easy to do with a glass of wine while watching christmas movies!

Then as you get christmas cards, attach them to the rope/ribbon and you are good! Simple and a great decoration!

Christmas Craft - Evie Snowman Ornament

I wanted to share a Christmas craft Evie and I did. I google searched a few months ago about Christmas crafts that a baby can do. Then I found someone on a board I am on who did this last year with her nephew. So I had to do it!

It was hard with little baby hands. But we did this right after a nap and right after she ate. So she was an awake, full, and non cranky baby. We had her in her bumbo (on the large counter top). Nick was holding her to make sure she didn't move or fall or anything. He held her arm so it wouldn't touch anything. I quickly painted her hand and put it on the ornaments. Then put the ornament gently in an egg carton to dry and grabbed the next one.

I wish I used shatterproof ornaments but I could not find them. I will try to find for next year.

We made many of them. 2 for us (one as a backup/storage). 1 for my parents. 1 for Nick's parents. 1 for Katie (Evie's grandmother). 1 for Andy (Evie's grandfather...who if you are reading this which I doubt you do, please disregard this). We have a few extra that I am figuring out who to give to.

Some the thumb didn't' turn out so it is a 4 snowman ornament (seen below).

I added some silver snowflakes to it and added her name, age, and year to the back.

And the finished project, hanging on the tree. Absolutely love it. It is by far my favorite on the tree!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Merry Christmas All!

I really hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

Tomorrow, Christmas Eve, we are driving down to visit my aunt/uncle/cousins! My grandmother and grandfather (Mormor and Smurf) are visiting them! So excited that Evie gets to meet her great grandparents! We are going down early to spend as long as possible with them. So stay tuned for pictures!

step back in de swaddling

Putting Evie to bed these past 2 nights have been torture. She gets so tired, since she is awake more at day care. She is all of a sudden so much more active. So that means she is almost out at 6 to 6:30. I like her to go to bed at 7 so we get some play time in with her.

But the past few nights she is EXHAUSTED. I nurse her around 6 to 6:30. She may fall asleep in my arms. When we move her to bed, she is screaming! Her "I'm soooooooooooooo tired" scream. To help her settle down, swaddling was the only thing that worked. And since I wanted to make sure she slept, it was a full swaddle, all the way up.

I think tonight we will try to get her ready at 6:30 and not put it off with her downstairs with us. Makes me sad not being able to spend time with her, but she needs it.

She hasn't been napping much at day care. But this could be normal for her age. I don't know. But she has 2 naps. One almost an hour (usually 45 min) and one that is an hour to an hour and a half. She could be like her mommy who doesn't nap well.

But these past 2 nights sleeping swaddled. She sleeps Well! I feed her around 10pm and she is down for the night!

Breastfeeding in Church

This weekend I took Evie to church by my self. Nick was busy helping his dad install our new dishwasher! Anyways, she got hungry. I have before gone into the entry way so we don't disturb anyone. But this time I didn't. I put on my nursing cover and fed her during the homily. Worked wonders!

Haha! I have nursed in church! For some reason, there is a little accomplishment there. I don't know why. And no one cared, or at least didn't say anything to me.

No Arm Swaddling!

Last night, I did it! I swaddled her with her swaddle blanket and left her arms out!

AND SHE SLEPT!

Well to clarify, I swaddled her loosely with arms in, and she did pull them out about an hour in. She went down at 6:30. Woke up a little before 10 hungry. She was exhausted so didn't eat much when I got her home. Realized that I completely forgot to put her night time diaper on (bad mommy), so put it on. Decided to be daring and swaddled her with arms out!

SHE SLEPT TILL 6:30!!!!

That is right, 8.5 hours. With her arms out! And the odd thing, she didn't move around as much as she does completely swaddled. Hmm..... But she did move in the opposite direction - up her crib, not down like normal.

But it was a great night!

Sleep....

OK I know the second I write this I am going to regret it and Evie will torture me.

But the past few nights I have been getting awesome sleep!

Put Evie to bed at 7:00 - 7:30. She sleeps till 10 or 11 and wants to eat a little more. Fine I am usually still awake or 1/2 asleep.

AND SHE SLEEPS TILL 7AM! I may have to go in when I am first getting up to put her pacifier in her mouth to buy me the needed 30 minutes to get everything together and take care of the animals.

but whoa! Awesome!

Starting to break the Swaddle

It is time to stop swaddling Evie. She is 4 months old. Loves to move around. Starting to roll and move onto her side. And she breaks out easily if it is not tight enough.

To gradually do this, we are swaddling her lower and lower. Right now about 1/2 of her arms are de swaddled. This means that she does break out of it, at least one arm.

Last night she did break out of it, but instead of re swaddling her, I decided to see where this goes. She did fine! WooHoo! I think she slept for 3-4 hours with one arm un swaddled!!!!

Depending on how adventurous I am feeling, I may swaddle with arms out on Friday night.

I would really like for her to sleep in a sleep sack. We learn so much in our sleep, that I want her to be able to move and her muscles practice and learn. And I want her to be able to sleep how she wants to sleep. If she is like her mommy, she will want to sleep on her side or stomach. If she wants to she can. I feel fine about it. She holds her head up well. Turns it well. So if she finds her way to her stomach while sleeping, she can do it! (Just means I have to change how I stuff her night time diapers)

Evie's new thing!

Every diaper change, Evie loves to grab her feet. This started about 2 days ago. Each time, her feet get closer and closer to her head / mouth. Makes cleaning up the diaper easy. Makes putting on the new diaper a challenge since she wants to keep them as close to her mouth as possible.

Soon, and I think within a week, they will find their way into her mouth!

Cannot believe how quickly she is learning things now! Really. Every day she develops more and more.

I need to take a picture of her playing with her feet!

Happy 4 months Evelyn!

You are four months old already. Sorry this is a few days late. You were sick on your four month birthday. Then Mommy and Daddy got sick on Sunday night. But we are all doing much better!

I cannot believe how fast the past four months have gone by. It really is surprising!

You really are growing and learning every single day! You are grasping and actually playing with toys. Everything goes into your mouth! You are learning how to roll, both ways! Your coordination is coming along so well. You love all your different toys. Your favorite is a pink butterfly I hand on your play mat. The wings crinkle when you grab onto it, and they go into your mouth. You also love your winkle, so many fun things to play with!

I just cannot believe how much you have grown in the past month. You were barely interested in toys last month. Now you are holding onto them. You hug them if I am holding it in front of you.

You have discovered your voice and love to shriek and talk. And do a fake cry just to get attention. Your morning conversations are the best!

You are such a happy baby! Mommy and Daddy love you soooo very much!

Yesterday was your 4 month well baby check up. You are doing great! Did not like the shots one bit though. They made you much more fussy than the 2 month shots.

You are now:
25.25 in long (80%ile)
13lb 1oz (50%ile)
39.5 cm head circumference (20%ile)

Mommy tried to get pictures of you on your 4 month birthday, but you were sick. So I got some on Sunday and you wern't very smily, and after going through the same thing, I understand. But I did get some good ones!

Baby Puke

Yesterday, 12-11-10. Evie's 4 month birthday.

We were out at babies r us at 5ish. Getting something for christmas. And. we were looking at what we wanted to get her, and she started projectile puking in her car seat. The pathetic burp cloth did nothing. It just kept going and going. Some even came out of her nose. Poor Girl

But she didn't seem to mind. I fed her before we left, so it had been at most 30 minutes. We went into the mother's room and completely stripped her. It was all over her bundle me. All over the car seat straps. Some got on the stroller.

Thank god for my wet bag. I was able to clean out the car seat with a lot of wipes. And I had an extra blanket. But yeah.

Called up the pediatrician. He suggested I feed her a little bit every 15 minutes. She kept it all down. I snuggled with her for a while. Eventually put her in her crib. She slept well. And she is fine this morning.

But wow that was a great puke! Thinking about it more, she did throw up some earlier that day, around 3 or 4, but we just thought it was a big spit up.

But yeah she is fine.

Dentist Appointment Update

This morning I had my 6 month dental cleaning and check up.

Proud to say that I don't have to go back till my next 6 month cleaning! WooHoo! My gums do bleed, but they said that hormones left over from pregnancy stick around and can still cause it. And nursing causes it. Lovely.

But I am doing good. Have one area they are watching (they have been watching it for a year now, so I hope nothing is going on).

I hate being poked and prodded in my mouth. And it is all sore now. Boo. But it is for the good.

I really need to start flossing more. Lately I am a 2-3 time a week flosser. Not horrible but not good. But flossing is a pain in the bum. Completely awkward. But healthy for my mouth so I need to do it more often.

I did ask and Evie needs to go to the dentist at 1 year. So call in 6ish months and make an appointment. WooHoo. The first appointment is mostly teaching the parents what to do. Real check ups start around 2 years. Need to take care of Evie's (non existing) teeth. I don't want to pay for braces! I am hoping she takes after me in that territory, I never had braces. I hope she takes after Nick who doesn't have many teeth problems.

Don't you love the feel of your teeth after a cleaning? The polish makes them so smooth.

post partum hair loss

I have hair piles everywhere. It sucks. Piles by the couch as I hand brush my hair after a day of work. Piles in the morning when I brush my hair. Piles in the shower as I wash.

It is gross. There is hair everywhere. I have long hair, and do like it (especially Nick). This makes this postpartum hair loss even more dramatic on the floor. The piles of a few strands of hair looks like so much more. It is funny, there are dog hair piles and Morrigan hair piles. Both gross. I brush my hand through my hair and usually come out with one strand of hair. Ick. The white tiled bathroom floor, is never clean anymore. And I am afraid to vacuum before sweeping because I don't want to clog the vacuum with my hair!

I know I have more months of this. I hate having to make sure that I didn't leave a hair on Evie, between her and her diaper, under her clothing, intertwined between her fingers (which happens easily know since she loves to grab my hair).

I can see how many moms get a 'mom' cut. I can't do it. But there are times where I contemplate it. I just got a cut (need to post pictures) and love it. I am now sporting a long side bang. I styled it last night and this am and it did turn out good!

4 month wakefull

yep we are in it.

This is a lovely period, from what I have read, where babies are more aware of their surroundings. They wake up at night, many times.

Nick has said that when he goes in there, she is making noise and crying, the second he opens the door, she smiles at him and stops. So happy. He does this a few times before he comes to bed at night (around midnight - 1 am). I go in and feed her around 1:30 to 2 now (used to be later) and she does eat. Then around 4:30 she wakes again, happy as can be when I open the door (lights are always off during the middle of the night). Give her back her pacifier. Put the seahorse back on. Go back to bed. Then awake again at 5:30, and she nurses again. And does eat.

They say this happens, especially to nursing babies, because they are so distracted while nursing that they don't eat as much during the day and make up for it at night. Totally the case here. And it happens because around 4 months they are more aware of the world around them and just like to know what is going on.

From reading here this is a good milestone. What a wonderful milestone *eyeroll*. it means that Evie is bonding with us and is having a good time with us during the day.

Wonder how long this will be.

Trip to Visit Santa

Being this is Evie's first Christmas, she HAD to visit Santa. What little girl doesn't want to visit Santa?

He was at the local animal rescue league. And she wanted to go with her doggy sisters, because they wanted to ask Santa for christmas presents too.

Evie asked for: milk, clean diapers (well she is a baby and those are the most wonderful things in the world to her), a jumperoo, and more toys
Penny asked for: a steak, some more toys, and a bully stick
Luna asked for: hugs and cuddles, toys, and some yummy treats

I think Santa can accomplish those requests! Lilly wasn't able to come (he is not a very social bunny) but he asked for some yogurt drops and some bunny toys, especially the twiggy ball one.

And Evie was not afraid of Santa at all! She is a social butterfly. She loves people holding her, no matter who it is. She was smiling and cooing.

My girls and Santa

I cannot believe everyone is looking at the camera! What is the chance of that happening!

Chili

My mom got this recipe from someone she works with. It is sooo yummy and makes excellent leftovers! I made it on Sunday. We had it for dinner Monday night, had it for lunch on Tuesday, had it for dinner again on Wednesday. So good. And was sad when we finished it.

This has a nice kick to it, not too spicy. For us though, that may mean it is spicy for others. We love our heat!

Forgive the pictures...

Chili on top of corn bread

Topped with Cheddar Cheese and Avocado

Chipotle Chili

2 Tbsp red chili powder
1 tsp chipotle chili powder
1 Tbsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground oregano
1 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp ground coriander seeds (I didn't have any)
3-4 Tbsp water

4 strips of bacon, cut up
2 1/2 (or more) chuck roast cut into 1/2 inch cubes (we used something different that was on sale but I don't remember)
salt
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
2 jalapeno peppers, minced (remove seeds for less heat)

1 14oz can tomatoes (I used green chili diced tomatoes)
1 1/2 cup water
1 Tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1/2 lime)
1 tsp sugar

1 14oz can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 tsp cornstarch dissolved in a little water to prevent clumping
salt

In a small bowl mix the chili powder, chipotle powder, cumin, oregano, thyme, corriander. Add water until it becomes a light paste.

Cook the bacon in a large skillet until crisp. Remove from pan and set aside on paper towel. (You could cook the bacon in strips and crumble, but I find it easier to slice the bacon before cooking it)

Increase heat to medium high. Add 1 Tbsp of bacon fat (YUM!). Working in batches so the meat isn't crowded and is steamed, brown the meat on all sides, lightly salting as it cooks. Remove from pan and set aside.

Add 1 Tbsp of bacon fat to the pan. Add the chopped onino and saute until soft, about 5 minutes. Ad the garlic and jalapeno. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the chili paste and cook for 2-3 more minutes.

Into a 6 quart thick bottomed dutch oven, put onion chili mixture, beef, bacon, tomatoes, water, lime juice and sugar. Heat the chili on medium heat until it comes to a simmer. Reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Then cover and cook for another half hour, keeping the temperature at a place where you can maintain a simmer.

Mix the cornstarch into a little water to dissolve. Add it to the chili to thicken. Gently mix in the kidney beans. Add salt to taste. Adjust seasonings as needed.

We like to serve on top of crumbled cornbread and top with avocado. Cheese is yummy but not needed with this yummy chili!

Enjoy!

Angel Biscuits

This recipe is from my Mom. I don't remember where she got it. But this is my FAVORITE biscuit recipe. Make it the night before. The longer the dough is in the fridge the better they get. I love to make it on Sunday morning and enjoy them all week. I turn the oven on and throw one in when I get up. Take it out of the oven when done. Put some jam on it and wrap it in foil and bring it into work. Such a yummy easy homemade breakfast! Actually I just finished one with apricot jam!

These pictures don't do it justice - my yeast is starting to die so they didn't puff up as much, and I didn't leave them in the fridge long enough since I was hungry on Sunday morning!

Biscuits Fresh out of the oven!

Angel Biscuits
2 1/4 tsp yeast (I believe this is a package of yeast, I like to keep a jar of yeast in my fridge)
1/2 cup warm water (105F - 115F)
5 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup margarine or butter (very cold/frozen)
2 cups buttermilk

Dissolve yeast in water for 5 minutes (I have found using a chopstick to stir helps it dissolve faster)

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Cut in butter with a pastry blender/cutter until it resembles a coarse meal. This step is important. The small bits of butter make it flaky and oh so good.

Add yeast mixture and buttermilk. Stir just until moist.

Cover and Chill at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 450F. Turn dough out (as much as you wish to use) onto a heavily floured surface and kneed lightly about 5 times.

Roll or pat dough to 1/2" thick and cut with a biscuit cutter. Place on parchment paper. If I am making this in the morning just for myself I just grab a blob of dough out of the container in the fridge, shape in hands and place on parchment paper.

Brush with melted butter (salted I find is yummier, and sometimes just put a small piece of cold butter on top).

Bake for about 13 minutes

Where is the Snow???

OK I have full right to deny I ever wrote this. Especially come late January/early February.

I am one who isn't a fan of winter. I don't like the cold. I get sick of snow. I miss the sun in the evenings. I am a summer girl. I love having the windows open. Not wearing shoes. Wearing skirts. Living in sandles outside the house.Doing things outside. Going on long walks. Winter time in New England is not fun. Cold, dark, roads a disaster. Just not fun. Now I would possibly like winter more if I got back into skiing, but that is a whole 'nother post - too expensive and I don't like New England Skiing, I have been spoiled by west coast skiing.

But this time of year, I love snow. It is so magical. So pretty. Especially when it isn't that cold yet. Snow this time of year is just fun!

Usually we have had our first snow fall of the season by now. But none yet. And yes I want some. Can you believe I am saying that? It just doesn't seem like christmas time without it! I love the look of the Christmas lights outside glowing under the snow. Looking out at the falling snow with a warm mug of mulled apple cider

I so badly want to take Evie out in the snow! Need to get her something to wear in it. We have a fleece bunting my mom got her, but I feel like I need something waterproof to put her in while playing in the snow. I know she is probably too young and wouldn't do anything.

I cannot wait till she is old enough to make a snowman with me. To make snow angles. To go sledding! I would love to take her skiing. Playing with the dogs in the snow! Oh she will have fun!

Happy Thanksgiving...a few days late!

We did have a great Thanksgiving! And Evie had a great time!

This year I didn't make as much as I have other years. Made an apple pie (from apples we picked about a month ago, kept in fridge so they were still good), made a pumpkin pie, and made mashed potatoes.

Ok, I have to share a funny picture... When making the apple pie, I just put some slits in it like I usually do. I think when inserting a knife into it to check done-ness, I may have streatched the slits. This resulted in a very angry pie....

I don't have any pictures of the pumpkin pie. But it was mighty tasty.

We went to Nick's uncle's home for Thanksgiving. Was great to see everyone (even though I saw them all less than a week ago for Evie's baptism - post to come with pictures, just need to write it up and retake a few of Evie dressed up - didn't have time on the day). Had fun.

I never understood early Thanksgiving meals. Growing up we ate early, around 4 or 5. Mostly because we are not early eaters and never have big lunches or breakfasts so just didn't make sense. And I don't think we wanted to stress getting up uber early to have things ready early.

But this year I finally understood it! It was awesome to be home at 5:30 and have Evie in bed by her bedtime. Didn't screw with our schedule much. And yes that is worth it!

And another But, and a big one. I need to learn to eat when a holiday meal is early. I don't eat breakfast for a holiday since I usually don't have time since I am busy getting things together. And with a baby, even less time. And I don't like the usual breakfast foods - I hate eggs and don't do meat in the mornings. And right now I am trying not to have much dairy for Evie's sake. So not many breakfast foods to enjoy. Whatever. And I didn't eat lunch, because we ddin't have much, because I didn't want to clean anything up, and because I wanted to be able to eat something since if I had lunch I wouldn't eat anything at the linner. And that put me in a cranky mood and started to have a headache. So lesson learned and will try to eat earlier next year....

So some pictures of Thanksgiving!

Evie with her Papou! They were having fun playing together!

Evie and her YiaYia

All of Nick's cousins, spouses, and our daughter!

Picture of us! We wern't looking at the camera for this one, but it is the better of the 2 that were taken.

Some of Nick's cousins and Evie! Andy is on the left is Evie's godfather!

And my little miss and in her sweater dress!

EVIE ROLLED!!!!!

Evie and I were home early today since Katie is here for her baptism on Sunday!

She was laying on her back in her baby gym/playmat. And she got onto her left side. She looked stuck since her arm was holding her up. She flipped back to her back. Then back to her side. We put a toy in front of her. She grabbed it and rolled onto her tummy!!!!!!!!!!! She then slowly moved her arm out and was laying there looking around!

Could not believe it! AND I SAW IT! And it didn't happen at day care!!!

Such a happy day!!!

House Falling apart

I am so depressed. Everything seems to be breaking!

Last night I ran the dishwasher. Checked this morning. Not all the soap was washed off. So now the thing needs 2 washes to get everything clean. Wonderful.

The utensil drawer broke. We thought the cabinets were decent quality. But I doubt it. This is the second drawer that has broken. I may put a lot of things in it, but it should handle it! Our cabinets are bothering me too because the 'finish' is rubbing off and you can see the wood underneath.

The bathroom fan stopped working so we can't vent.

Hopefully that is the three and nothing else breaks. I wanted to spend my Christmas bonus on a nice DSLR camera, but now it is looking like a dishwasher. So not fun!

Hands Free Pumping Bra

Got this in the mail on Friday. Could not wait to use it!

Just used it and LOVE! The Pump Ease hands free bra is fantastic. So soft and stretchy at the same time! I found out about it at The Leaky Boob. I have the red retro one.

I just pumped 15 ounces! Yes I do pump a lot more on Mondays than other days of the week. But it was so nice to sit there relaxed, with my hands to be able to massage while pumping! I may have to get another one as backup.

Was so nice not to have to hold the shields in place. And I didn't leak like I sometimes do when I don't quite have it on right.

Woot!

Flu Shot

Last Tuesday I had the flu shot at my Doctor's office. I was going to get it at work but they denied me since I am nursing (really confused about that). But I am so happy I got it at my doctors office! They did such a better job than the traveling nurses! It never hurt! And I didn't need a bandaid - she just waited for it to clot and let me go!

Yep happy that my annual exam is scheduled for October next year - going to get it at the doctors office again!

Evie's new thing...

Last night she was chewing on her hand/fingers. She was chewing on one and was sticking it far into her mouth that she found her gag reflex... She did it twice. Of all things to discover...gag reflex.

At least she didn't throw up.

Day 2 - Meaning of Blog Name

When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was called Morgan the Magnificent by Ian Wallace.

It was about a girl who would pretend to be in circus preforming stunts (wanting to be a tight rope walker). She had so fun sneaking out of the house.

When trying to figure out a name, I remembered this book. And how I used to love reading it over and over. So my blog name is somewhat similar to the book. Not as interesting as the girl in the book, but reminds me of many childhood memories!

OMG!!! Pants!

I am currently wearing size 10 pants! After pregnancy I had to get some size 12 since I wasn't quite fitting into my pre pregnancy pants! Just now I tried some on just for shits and giggles. AND THEY SLID ON SO EASILY! So freaking happy! Made my day!

Day 1 - fun facts

First - Introduction:
Hi! I am Morrigan. I have been married since June 28, 2008. My husband and I just had our first child on August 11, 2010! We didn't find out the gender and it was a wonderful surprise come delivery day! She is a wonderful baby girl! Well you probably know this if you have read this blog in the past 3 months....

Recent Picture:
From Halloween! OK there is a more recent 2 posts down, but I like this one!

15 Fun Facts, These are going to be completely random:
1 - I am missing a ligament on my right thumb. I can only bend it at the joint connecting the thumb to my hand. This makes me grasp things oddly. I hold pens strangely and cut even stranger.
2 - I love Peanut Butter! I grew up eating PB&J every day. And now I have it most days at work for lunch.
3 - I am such an animal person. I have 2 dogs. If we had a larger house and a fence, I would have more.
4 - I train my dogs in dog agility and compete with one of them. Such a blast!
5 - I hate video games. I don't see a point in them. Whenever Nick plays they put me to sleep within the first 10 minutes.
6 - I have lived in the following states in this order: California, Ohio, California, New Mexico, Illinois, New York, New Hampshire.
7 - I have a male rabbit named Lilly. He is the Monty Python rabbit and has drawn blood on several occasions.
8 - I love my red hair and green eyes. They make me me. I love having 2 things that are uncommon.
9 - I love Halloween. Each year I buy more and more decorations. Want to throw a halloween party one year...
10 - If I could choose another job, I would either be a dog trainer or a baker.
11 - I have become addicted to cloth diapering! So love it!
12 - I am a coward. I have a hard time standing up for myself or speaking my mind. I can type a vent well on message boards or on here but I could never say that to the persons face. I want everyone to like me.
13 - I don't have many friends. Never had. A handful of good friend is better than a lot of somewhat friends. I just wish that we lived closer together.
14 - I have no friends to really hang out with where I live. That is why I joined a working moms group. I feel welcome there and get along with them very well. I so hope I get friendships out of it.
15 - I have a temper. It is the Irish in me. I try to control it and think I have progressed a lot. Have learned to speak my thoughts before I get upset.

Happy 3 Months Evie!

3 months already? How can that be? Time is just flying fast, especially now that I am working and you are going to day care....

I really miss my maternity leave with you. It was so much fun just to hang around each other, play, and soak everything in. But, life goes on.

Evie, this has been a great month for you! You are really growing in front of my eyes! Each day I can see your brain working and you discovering new things!

Each and every morning you greet me with the biggest smile. It just makes my day. You are the happiest baby in the mornings! Sometimes you wake up in your crib (yes you are now sleeping in your own room!) make a little noise, but just hang out there while Mommy takes care of the animals and gets her stuff together. A few days ago, Tueday November 16th, you made Mommy's morning much more special. You Giggled while you were on your changing table for your morning diaper and clothing change! It was such a cute laugh! You love to smile at Mommy making funny noises at you!

You are getting so good at holding your head up! Rarely ever bobble anymore!

And your grasp is getting so good. Saturday you really started to grasp at stuff - you held onto a toy in your baby gym, you were playing with a toy (kept hitting it). And you really started holding onto your rattle!

Yesterday for your 3 month birthday Dad stayed home with you. Well day care was closed due to Veterans Day. But you two had so much fun! Dad told me how you guys did lots of tummy time and you were pulling your knees under you! Why do I have a feeling that you will be an early mover? But no interest in rolling yet, so maybe not???

Also we have gotten this whole nursing in public thing down! With the help of my nursing cover, I feel comfortable nursing anywhere! We have now nursed in a restaurant, church, basement of church. Yep getting good! I so love nursing you, the bond, the nutrients, the not having to wash bottles... And I know you love it too. As I lift up my shirt and undo my bra, you turn to me and open your mouth wide just waiting. Puts a smile on my face every time.

And we are so loving cloth diapering you. Your dad even likes it. Just wish day care would use cloth on you, but c'est la vie. You are only going through about 2 packages of disposables a month, not bad... Also mom may have a small addiction to buying cloth diapers. We have enough now, but I just cannot resist some cute prints and sales. I have held back, but I think I will HAVE to get some cute ones for pictures!

Last weekend we had family pictures. I still need to go through them and order them. Just time... And then I need to order our Christmas cards! Can you believe it that we will have a Christmas tree up in 14 days!

OK Picture Time! (warning, some of these are print screens so the quality may not be there)

Family Picture. I think this is the Christmas Card Picture. Gotta have the Dogs in it. They are your big sisters!
More Family Picture Funness

Mommy and Evie

And the cute baby!

I took these this morning. I put you down on the couch while I was putting on my Ergo to get things ready and you were sitting there so cute, I had to snap a few.

Big Smile

Whatcha Doin?

We are so excited, this time next week your aunt (and soon to be god mother) will be here! And Next Friday evening Poppy and Mimi (or J and Melinda, I don't think they are set on their grandparent names yet...) will be here!!!! All for your baptism! You will look so pretty and we will have so much fun. Now to decide to get you dunked or to just sprinkle water on your forehead!

Dogs and Chickens

I posted something about this on facebook a few weekends ago but never put it on here.

On halloween morning the dogs were going crazy because something was outside. Looked out the window, and there were TWO CHICKENS just wondering around, tormenting the dogs. They were only in our backyard for maybe 30 minutes in the morning. But that afternoon they were back!

We went out to the deck (have a gate so they can't go anywhere) and they were going NUTS! As you would expect a dog to behave with chickens invading their backyard....

I think Cleo sent the chickens to Penny and Luna. There were two chickens, one for each dog...

When I was in elementary school, living in the middle of California, we lived in a small town. We let Cleo (our family dalmatian) wonder the neighborhood sometimes with her buddy, Wallen, a springer spaniel. Katie and I were at school. I think I was in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Anyways, my mom was still at home getting ready. And Cleo was outside. She was out in the yard and Cleo came running with a chicken in her mouth! Feathers got all over the front yard from what I heard. Someone helped her get the chicken out of Cleo's mouth. I believe the chicken lived. But one hell of a prize for a dog.

The chicken came from one of our neighbors who had a chicken coop that was not very secure. Yes we should not have let her wonder the neighborhood, but we did and she rarely got in trouble (that is a whole 'nother post). But Cleo had such a happy and long life - 17 years!

Middle of the night feedings

Middle of the night feedings can happen at all different times of night. (this more so matters on work days). Usually Evie just gets up for one of these feedings.

2-2:30 - not bad. Early enough that I can quickly get back to sleep and get into a good sleep before waking up at 6.
3-3:30 - ehh. Can suck when working the next day. But still can get in an extra 2 hours depending..
4-4:30 - SUCKS! Just in time to lay down, barely fall asleep before my alarm goes off. Then I am dragging myself.
5:00 - alarm - might as well get up and start the day early.

Had the 4:30 last night. Debated about just starting the day early. But went back to bed and laid down for 1.5ish hours. Was relaxing.

Time Change

I love the fall time change. Love gaining that extra hour. But I don't see a reason for it. Yes it is for the farmers. But do they still need it? Does that hour really make a difference?

I believe it is just to complicate and confuse! Especially if I don't remember if Nick updated the clocks, and if some are updated and not all, I just get confused. At least my cell and the comcast box updates itself! And we don't have many clocks in the house - I cannot stand the ticking sound of a clock.

I was a little worried about how the time change would affect Evie. I was wondering how early I would be getting up and how long it would take for her to change her schedule. I have to say we did good.

Evie goes to bed around 8-9:30 depending on the night. We shoot for 9, but sometimes she is too tired or is wide awake/cranky/hungry.

Saturday she slept in until 8am! But more importantly I slept in! I could not believe it when I woke up. I was one happy girl that morning!

Saturday night she went to sleep early, around 8pm. The night of the time change, of course my baby girl wants to go to bed early. I kept thinking great - I'll be up soooo freaking early. But NOPE! She was liking her sleep. She woke up at 4am for a feeding. Then slept until 8:30am!!!! I got up before her, took dogs out, fed animals, made coffee. Then she started to stir. Wow. Just wow!

And this morning, she started to wake up at 6am. boo. But I was able to give her a pacifier and reposition her (she smushed herself at the bottom of her crib and couldn't stretch her legs). I was able to shower, take care of animals, get dressed, and then wake her up. I feel like she wanted to sleep more.

I think the dreary rainy mornings have helped her sleep longer. We need to get some curtains/blinds for her window...

Evie is starting to reach and grasp things!

Yesterday was a fantastic day! While she was playing in her baby gym, she grabbed onto and would not let go of one of the bird toys! Later in the day I switched out some of them and she was fascinated by one of the new ones and kept playing with it - hitting it and staring.

That evening, Nick was showing her the flowers he got for me (aww). And she grabbed a flower. And about an hour before bed time he was playing with her new rattle - she grabbed onto it!

It is just amazing how new developments just amaze parents. Love it! Love how she is learning.

We made up a game on Sunday morning. I was slouching on the couch and she was on my tummy. She, with the help of gravity and my body, was able to roll and me catch her on my side. But when she is down no interest. No worries here. And I am happy that she is not mobile as long as possible!

Baptism Class

Ugh this whole baptism thing has been difficult!

The classes we are taking are not that bad. And are a nice review. Me going to Catholic school for 9 years, followed by public school but I was very active in my church youth group and went to church weekend retreats. So I am fairly knowledgeable. But Nick is learning things.

Yesterdays was about sin. About commandments and beatitudes (love the beatitudes). Actually they were able to convince me to go to confession (it has been around 10 years) before Evie is baptized. So they did their job!

But talking to my sister on the phone afterwards, depending on what parish, and what priest you are with you get a whole different feeling about religion. These people that are by the book, oh so holy just annoy me.

I remember Fr. Joe (the best priest I have ever known) was a little more laid back. yes he was by the book, but talked about things more rather than reading from the bible. He put things into perspective. Made things fun.

When I was in catholic school, they did this too. We would read from the bible sometimes, but in general it was teaching general topics about religion. I guess this is hard to put into words but Katie and I understood what we were talking about. It may be Pope Benedict that has changed things (vs Pope John Paul 2). Or it is just different parishes.

And they said something that totally irked me, and these parts of the bible I soooo don't go with. The whole that Adam (man) was put in charge over Eve (woman). Yeah no. Nick looked at me and I gave him evil eye.

And last week they said that animals don't go to heaven. That is a total lie. They have souls and so go to heave. Especially my dogs. Already we tell Penny and Luna that they will have to behave themselves when they meet Cleo one day (since she didn't like female dogs). The rainbow bridge on the way to heaven, all my animals will greet me and we will walk in together. And every time I mention the rainbow bridge I start to tear up. Miss you Cleo!

Katie (Evie's godmother) is having issues too being the god mother. Technically she doesn't go to church. She is too busy. And the catholic church in my family's opinion has been having issues. She is in grad school. Has to work to support herself. And is teaching softball. She is one busy woman! And is usually teaching when there is mass. And they are all like well you can't be one since you don't go to church. She is a good spiritual person, and will be a great spiritual leader. You can be a spiritual leader without going to church. Especially since people may physically be in church but mentally they aren't there. GAH! But she got the form signed and that is what matters!

I have to say, I am enjoying going to church again. I do like to read along with the readings. It is just calming. Now I need to try to get Nick up earlier so we can go to an earlier one. 11:30 is so in the middle of the day.

3 month growth spurt???

I think the 3 month growth spurt may be starting.....

The past few days at day care she has been eating 2-5 more ounces than usual. (from 10 ounces at day care to 12-15 ounces).

Last night, she went down at 8:30 (did her usual evening cluster feedings). Woke up at 2:30, 4:30 and 5:30 and ate each time! Was fun!

Will be interested in what she eats today at day care!

(small vent - someone at day care, who is old school, suggested rice cereal in the evening - NOPE! She is a breast fed baby and the only bottles she gets is from you! And I am not starting any solids till 5-6 months - waiting for her interest in food and not rushing anything since all she needs is breastmilk)

Political - Election Results vent and putting my ideas out there

Yeah this is going to be one sided. I am a democrat. A very proud democrat. I am not a fan of the republican party for many reasons. I do research and choose the candidate I like, but they are usually democrat.

Sorry for those of you who don't agree with me. My blog so haha! I can't talk politics to many people since now I live in a Red state. I don't want to get into arguments, or get all pissed off. So skip this if you don't want to listen to a democrat who none of the people she voted for got elected.

I am just annoyed that people of this country did not understand how far of a hole we were in and it is going to take TIME a whole lot of precious time...its gonna take patience and time...to do it right! (ok love that song, George Harrison Got My Mind Set On You) and hey it fit with my thought!).

The Bush Administration dug us deep. He left as things were getting bad. People think Obama put us here, but he did not! He is trying to get us out of this pit of despair. It takes more than 2 years to recover an economy like ours. We are seeing improvements. It is just SLOOOWWWW.

And I just don't get republicans sometimes. They rarely cut anything but want to cut taxes. The money wants to come from somewhere. I live in a state with no income tax and no sales tax. So gas is taxed, we have a slightly higher property tax, registering cars is expensive, high meals and room tax. People don't understand money has to come from somewhere. Those who get upset of when someone says they want to increase taxes, WE DON'T GET TAXED BADLY! Don't complain!

I need to move back to CA, well for many reasons. But would be nice to live among those who have the same political views as me. Nick is really independent. He sees both sides and is somewhere in the middle. One of the reasons we can talk politics. But besides him, yeah its phone calls to my parents!

The main issues that turn me off of a political candidate:
  • Abortion - it is a woman's choice. Can we just leave it at that? No republicans have to bring religion into it with a soul starts at conception. You can be pro choice but believe in the life choice (which I do). Why do people have to be so anti choice.
  • Gay Marriage - Yeah another religion one. Let them have all rights anyone who is married have. Who cares about the sex of the couple! Let them live their life. If you are really worried about the whole word marriage - then say marriage is something that happens in a church and a civil union is what happens by a justice of the piece. But who cares, it is just a label. Let people be happy!
  • Medical "Obama care" as people all it - It is a step in the right direction! There are a LOT of good things in it! It isn't perfect. But it is better than what we had! Give it time, give it revisions! It is version 1 in beta, things will change and it will get better!
And after talking to some of the chat boards I belong to, there are some others that are more localized to states/counties/towns.

I am so happy how far legalizing of marijuana came in CA. It will be up again in 2 years! So much money is wasted on going after pot. Where it should be spent on the hard drugs that really play havoc on our country. It should be considered similar to Alcohol. it is healthier than tobacco. And it would bring in a small revenue. This you could tax hard! Sin taxes people! Just for the record, even if it was legal I would not use it.

Dry counties and towns. Just do not get it. People will drive to get alcohol. It is just stupid. Me living across the country, I found it stupid where certain places you could not buy alcohol before a time on Sunday or not on Sunday at all. OK people will plan accordingly. And Religion influencing government much??? I just don't get these stupid laws. Especially those where you can buy wine here, beer here, and have to go get liquor here. Why can't you get all in one place?

I guess I am all big government. I find it so confusing, especially living in new england where the states are so small and in a few hours you can drive through oh so many. It is hard to keep what laws are valid in what states. Especially driving ones. I really feel these should be nation wide laws (texting, cell phone, seat belts, etc). I go by all of them for safety (well except for talking on cell, yeah I am bad and do it a lot). But I just find it stupid. Make it all the same.

OK that is my small rant. I am stopping now because I could probably go on and on and on.

Happy Halloween

I ran out of steam last night and just could not do a blog update. So...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN a day late

We had a great Halloween here! We started the day at church (Evie wasn't her sleepy self, got hungry mid mass, and was wide awake the whole mass singing and talking. Everyone around us was staring at her - much more entertaining!). She was wearing her cute pumpkin mouse onsie.

Came home and I had to do this small photo shoot of her! The pumpkin was a lot larger than we needed.

We dressed Evie up in her halloween costume! The cutest Lady Bug there is!

We visited Grandparents and Great Grandparents. This really tired her out. The plan was to come home and do a little bit of trick or treating with our neighbors but she was toooooooo exausted. She slept in the Ergo while i gave out candy. At least she was still wearing her costume and a cute jack-o-lantern hat!

But we did carve pumpkins!!!!!!

Nick's metroid Pumpkin - this took him around an hour to carve... It does look good!

I didn't have much time so I just did a face. Hadn't done one in a while of just a face and I like it!

And the big pumpkin that Evie posed in, had to engrave her name into it!
I was going to add 2010 under but yeah that wasn't going to happen.

Next year we will go trick or treating on our street. I hope to sew Evie's costume that year too. And Nick and I will dress up next year while taking Evie trick or treating and handing out candy! I love halloween but this year I did not have the energy to decorate like I usually do. Next year though --- I will have fun!

Woot! Sleep

I am totally going to jinx myself by writing this....

But for the past few nights - Evie has been sleeping 7 - 8.5 hours!

I feed her around 8:30 or 9. Then we swaddle her and put her in her crib. She falls asleep either right away or takes about 30 min and a few turn ons of the seahorse.

When Nick comes to bed, he moves Evie to her bassinette. (This weekend we are trying a whole night in her crib). Then she sleeps till 4:30 or 5, sort of wakes up enough to eat and goes back down until 7/7:30 when I wake her up for day care. She could sleep longer.

I think the move to the crib has helped her sleep better! The first night was so cute, we both were watching the monitor over the TV that was on in the background. Every time she would move Nick would say "Evie do you need a hug and kiss!" and then she would fall back asleep "oooo".

She does well in her crib!

Transitioning to crib

I think this weekend we are going to try to transition Evie to her crib. Totally scared of this! I think we are going to start this tomorrow (Friday) night. If it doesn't go well, I'll bring her to her bassinet.

But EEK!!!

my little girl is growning up!

Evie is long and skinny-ish.

Last night we tried on a 3-6 month pjs (they are the smaller of the ones we have), and they fit length wise. They are big for her, but *tear* she can wear them. And this morning since we don't have many long sleeved 0-3 and I refuse to buy more, I put her in a 3-6 onsie! She is swimming in it like she did when she was born with 0-3, but she can wear it.

Right now 0-3 is her size, but she can wear some 3-6 due to her length!

And I think she is done with newborn sized clothing. They still fit technically, but are too short in the arms and too short in the legs. But technically they fit, and I will still use them in a pinch if needed.

A few days ago I was going through pictures, and had one of her laying on my chest in the hospital on her birth day. Wow has she grown. Made me tear up

Heat is on!

With a baby in the house, the heat is now on earlier than normal! It was nice to wake up and not be freezing. Was so cold outside this morning when I took the dogs out (5:45). Love fall. Hate winter. Hate this beginning feeling of winter in the mornings. Winter is what makes me hate new england and makes me question living here every year.

Not Fair

Just a small not fair post

I hate that when I drop Evie off in the morning, she is wide awake, so happy, so aware. I want to spend that time with her, not the people at day care! In the evenings she is tired, cranky. I want my happy morning baby! And it makes it so hard to leave when she is that happy, awake, wanting attention. WAH!!!!

And I am so envious of people who get to take off so long for maternity leave. My work sucks in that they have nothing for maternity leave. Thank god for short term disability. And yes it was my choice to start a family before we had enough saved up for me to take extra time off. And so worth it. Would not change anything. Love my life. But just wish work would have given me some extra time off paid. Like they give guys one week paid off for paternity leave, and nothing for women! BS!

And another thing about work since I am griping. I hate my salary. It is only OK. DH gets paid over 10K more than me, and gets over 3K more in his Christmas bonus, so probably 15+K more a year! And we do the same amount of work. Technically I am in charge of him. But nope. I get paid less. He says it is because he worked with someone who knew the company owner so he had more pull. But giving my percentages of raises (what they say is the maximum they can do) and his few extra years of experience, I would be no where close to what he gets paid. Yes I do like working here, but just some things make me reconsider it.

But work works so well with family life. I don't have set hours, just have to get my job done mostly. I can leave for doctors appointments, leave early for kid, etc. Love that aspect. And I love what I do. I love the people I work with. I am really happy here. I don't want to change anything but salary. Especially since raises have been nothing for the past 2 years.

What a Great 28th Birthday!

Yesterday was my 28th birthday. It was a FANTASTIC birthday! One of the best I have ever had. I think a lot of that has to do with having the cutest baby in the world! Last year I remember wishing for her!

The day started off well. Evie let me sleep in until 8am! We cuddled on the couch. I had a few cups of nice hot coffee. Nick woke up and we got ready for apple picking! We went to one of my favorite apple orchard around here.

It was only a 30 minute drive. And the fall colors were fantastic driving up there. We pulled to the little store, got some fresh apple cider donuts. Small hot crunchy bites of donut goodness.

Went up to pick apples. Got a 1/2 bushel bag. Nick took a great picture of Evie and I. Love this picture. I consider it one of my birthday gifts.

Put Evie in the Ergo and started apple picking! She loves being in it and slept the whole time.

We were there for the Red Northern Spys. One of the best eating and cooking apple I have had. 3 years ago they were fantastic and we fell in love with this apple. Last year they were not good. This year we did find some, but I think the apple season was early and all the good big apples were gone. It was good though - we were able to almost fill our bag. Nick had fun pulling apples high up with a stick...

gorgeous views from this orchard:
Most of the trees were bare. This was the last day of pick your own apples. Next weekend we are going to try to go earlier.

A lot of the trees have these red apple looking traps for bugs. Yeah you don't want to know how many times we thought we saw a great red apple, and got close and nope - bug trap!

After we were done, got back to the car, fed and changed Evie and went back to the store. Got Evie the CUTEST handmade apple hat! She will wear this for the next 2 months! Also picked up some apple cider syrup. The plan is to make some pancakes or waffles this weekend and enjoy it with the cinnamon apple cider syrup (a combination of maple syrup and boiled down apple cider)! I was a little disappointed that they were out of apple cider... It was the end of the day and they were very busy...

Some more fall colors pictures:

Came home and relaxed, a little cleaning and cuddling with Evie. We met up with Nick's parents for a fantastic dinner at a local bbq joint. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they got. Evie got a little fussy (but it is her fussy time) and I ate while holding her. No biggie, I have gotten used to that by now. And of course, everyone was so full after BBQ. I had one of my favorites - pulled pork. And of course when you have pulled pork you MUST have it with cole slaw! Oh I love that combination! And I enjoyed my local beer!

Came home for CAKE! I picked out this cake and got it on Saturday at a local bakery. There is another bakery that we think is tastier, but this one does better decorations. So fitting for me since I LOVE HALLOWEEN! I set the table with my halloween placemats too....

OH and Nick gave me such a good present - one I did ask for... Ugg slippers!! I needed some new ones so badly and these are so comfortable! And the best present he gave, 5 hours of cleaning the house on Saturday!

And the night ended perfectly...a bubble bath with jets and a glass of champagne!

Was such a good birthday!
